Game 2 – The Picket Fence

Game Overview

🏆 Game Winner: The team with the longest total batting time wins.

  • Each team starts with 2 wickets

  • Innings are timed with a stopwatch, and totals are added across innings.

Equipment

  • 4 sets of stumps

  • 1 scoreboard

  • Cricket balls

  • 8 small cones

  • 1 stopwatch

Time Required

45 – 90 Minutes

Participants

  • 2 players: 1v1 (2 innings)

  • 3 players: 1v1v1 (3 innings)

  • 4 players: 2v2 (2 innings)

  • 5 players: 2v1v2 (3 innings)

  • 6 players: 2v2v2 (3 innings)
    Max 6 players per net.

Rules

Team to bat for the longest period of time combined over multiple innings wins the game No free hits in this game If a batter plays and misses at a ball that is classed as a wicket lost At the change of innings the next team only have 90 seconds to pad up and be ready to face up to their first delivery. This always creates immense exhilaration. A batting team starts their innings with 2 wickets in hand

Batting

  • Start with 2 wickets in hand (optionally 3 for weaker teams).

  • Play-and-miss = 1 wicket lost.

  • Change ends every 4 balls.

Bowling

No appeal = no wicket

Fielding

  • Batter’s end is set with 7 stumps.

  • 8 cones mark: Short third, Point, Cover, Mid-off, Mid-on, Mid-wicket, Square leg, Short fine.

  • “27 slips” are in play—just a fun tradition, no extra setup needed.

  • Field setup stays fixed for the entire game.

Special Rules

  • No free hits.

  • 90 seconds maximum to pad up and start the next innings.
